Sheriff's Office Notable Calls

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office published the following notable calls that occurred between Jan. 22 and Jan. 25. The sheriff’s office describes this information as preliminary and subject to revision as investigations continue.

Jan. 22 – Deputies and a County K-9 assisted Post Falls Police with a Building Search at Center Target Sports in Post Falls, after a door was found unsecured. Post Falls Police handled the incident.

Jan. 22 – Deputies responded to a residence for a wanted person after the reporting party called and advised her brother was causing problems and creating issues with their parents. The male was taken into custody without incident.

Jan. 22 – Several Deputies responded to a residence for a psychological call. An adult male was out of control and breaking stuff in the house. Deputies arrived on scene and the male eventually came out of the house, stated he did not want any help and retreated back into the house. The other occupants were able to get out of the house and they were given a ride back home.  

Jan. 22 – Deputies responded to a suicide threat. The party was contacted and was taken to Kootenai Health so she could get some treatment.

Jan. 22 – Deputies responded to an unlawful entry. A male came to the residence looking for the reporting party's wife. The male was able to make entry into the residence and was confronted by the reporting party who has armed himself. The reporting party was able to push the unknown male out of the house and the unknown male fled prior to law enforcement's arrival.

Jan. 22 - A deputy made a traffic stop on I-90 near Pleasantview for a traffic violation. A K-9 arrived on scene and alerted to illegal substances in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed fentanyl and paraphernalia. Both occupants were arrested. Tools were also located in the vehicle that appeared to be stolen from a job site, but the owner was not certain. The tools were seized and booked into evidence.

Jan. 22 – A deputy made a traffic stop at Beck Road and West Pointe Parkway for a traffic violation. A K-9 arrived to assist and alerted on the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed marijuana and paraphernalia. Both occupants were issued citations for the offenses.  

Jan. 23 – Deputies responded to Walmart at Stateline for an agency assist for Post Falls Police. It was reported a male subject in a vehicle was driving recklessly and running over curbs at a high rate of speed. Deputies made contact with the driver, who was having a mental health issues. He advised he was trying to hurt himself by driving over the curbs at more than 50 miles per hour. He was taken to Kootenai Health for a mental evaluation.

Jan. 23 – Deputies arrested a juvenile for their warrant at the juvenile detention center.

Jan. 23 - Deputies handled an unattended death call.  An elderly female was found deceased by her husband.  

Jan. 23 – Deputies stopped a vehicle in the area of Pleasant View and Expo Parkway. During the investigation it was determined the vehicle may have been stolen out of California, but the vehicle was being driving by an alleged owner. Ultimately the driver was released the vehicle was towed and will be released to the “real” owner.

Jan. 23 – Deputies made a traffic stop on a vehicle on Beck Road and Pointe Parkway. During the stop, a police K-9 alerted to the presence of controlled substance in the vehicle. A search yielded methamphetamine and paraphernalia. The female occupant was arrested for the drug possession.  

Jan. 24 – Deputies arrested a male for his active warrant.

Jan. 24 – Deputies arrested a female for her active warrant.

Jan. 24 – Deputies made a traffic stop at Seltice and Baugh. During the stop, the driver had an active warrant and was arrested for the warrant.

Jan. 24 – Deputies responded to a family dispute involving a 19-year-old male. The male was upset that his parents entered his room and told him to turn his music down. During the investigation, it was learned the male was have tom mental health issues. He and his parents were provided some resources to help with his problems. No crimes occurred.

Jan. 24 – A Deputy made a traffic stop on Highway 41 near Hayden Avenue. During the stop the deputy could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search was conducted and marijuana was found on the driver’s person. Additionally, LSD strips were found in the vehicle. The juvenile subject was later arrested for possession of a controlled substance and transported to juvenile detention center.

Jan. 25 – Deputies responded to a residence for troubled youth for one of their clients was having a mental breakdown and breaking items in the house and threatening staff. Deputies arrived on scene and discovered a large amount of damaged property. Eventually the female was placed under citizen’s arrest.

Jan. 25 – Deputies handled an unattended death call. A male was found deceased by his wife. The male has several severe medical problems.

Jan. 25 - Deputies responded to Walmart in Hayden for an accident where it was believed one party was under the influence. A K-9 Deputy did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and the K-9 alerted to illegal substances in the vehicle. Eventually the driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Jan. 25 – Deputies responded to a shoplifter at Super 1 Foods in Hayden. The male was cited and released after he attempted to steal alcohol.  

Jan. 25 – A deputy made a traffic stop on Seltice Way in the Stateline Village. During the stop, the Deputy could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.
