Noxon came into their girls basketball game Friday night in Troy looking for their first win of the year.

But despite a spirited come back effort by the Lady Devils, they are still looking for that elusive initial victory as they fell to the Lady Trojans 42-35.

That heart-breaker came on the heels of an overwhelming home court loss Thursday to Western 14C conference co-leader Charlo, 59-16.

The Lady Vikings, who improved their league record to 4-0 with the big win, roared out to a 25-6 lead after the first eight minutes of play. They then built an insurmountable halftime lead, 43-8, when they outscored the home team 18-2 in the second quarter.

The Lady Vikings outscored Noxon 16-8 in the second half to ice the conference win.

Graciela Hawk led the visitors with a game-best 14 points, while teammates Sheadon Kain and Seeley McDonald chipped in 11 points each.

Friday night the Lady Devils traveled to Troy and fought hard but still trailed big going into the final quarter. Troy outscored Noxon 26-14 in the first half, then stretched their lead by five in the third quarter, putting them up 35-20 with one quarter to go. Noxon would not surrender and rallied to win the final quarter 15-7, but their efforts to overcome the large early deficit fell short, dropping them to 0-8 on the season.

Noxon hosts Two Eagle Rivers’ girls Friday night (Feb 2), then hit the road for a rematch with the Lady Vikings, in Charlo, this Saturday evening.
