The Plains boys basketball train is back on track.
After a minor bump in the schedule, the Horsemen picked up a pair of wins this past week, downing Alberton 71-25 on the road, then coming home Saturday and picking up a 7B conference home win over Troy, 58-38.
The girls, who played only Troy due to the pause in girls basketball by Alberton this season, rolled to a 45-12 rout of the Lady Trojans in Plains.
Overall, a good weekend for Plains hoops.
The boys got things rolling Friday night in Alberton when they bolted out to a 17-4 lead after one quarter of play against the Panthers, who have won just one game this year as they work to build a varsity program at the Mineral County school.
The Horsemen continued to pour it on in the second quarter, outscoring Alberton 20-5 en route to a 37-9 halftime lead.
Plains then outscored the Panthers 34-16 in the second half to seal the deal and pick up their ninth victory against five losses this season. The Horsemen are 6-3 in the Western 7B conference, while Alberton dropped to 0-7 in Western 14C league play.
Sophomore Shea Fredette led Alberton in scoring with nine points.
Plains standout guard Darren Standeford topped all scorers with 22 points.
Saturday night back on their home court, Plains boys took on the Trojans from Troy and after a tight first quarter, took control of the game and slowly increased their lead the rest of the way.
By halftime Plains was up 25-19. They then outscored Troy 15-8 in the third quarter to open a comfortable 40-27 lead with one quarter left in the game.
The Horsemen added seven points to the lead in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Four players scored in double figures for the Horsemen, led by 17 each from Aden West and senior forward Anaya Loberg. Zayden Allen and Standeford added 10 apiece to the Horsemen’s cause.
The Trotters game Saturday night versus Troy was pretty much decided early as Plains galloped out to a 13-0 lead after one quarter of play as their defensive pressure pitched a shut out.
Things didn’t get much better for the Lady Trojans in the second quarter as the Trotters rolled to a 23-3 halftime lead.
Plains went on to outscore Troy 22-9 in the second half and coasted to the conference win, upping their 7B mark to 3-3. The win boosted the Trotters’ overall season record to 9-4.
Next up for both Plains teams is a trip to Thompson Falls this Thursday night for a pair of contests against their Sanders County rival. They then journey to Superior Friday for a set of games against the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats.
