LEGION BASEBALL: 16U Lakers grab first win of season
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 5 months AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | July 1, 2024 3:30 PM
KETTLE FALLS, Wash. — After falling to Kettle Falls 11-0 in their first matchup Saturday, the 16U North Idaho Lakers captured an 11-7 win in their second matchup, their first win of the summer season, thanks to a 2-for-3, four RBI effort from Weston Swen.
In the first game, the Lakers were held to no hits. Jacob Alexander got the start on the mound for North Idaho and pitched two innings, giving up just two hits while striking out five batters. After Alexander was pulled, Kettle Falls scored one run in the third inning and 10 runs in the fourth inning to capture the victory.
In the second game, the Lakers bounced back. Swen hit RBI singles in both the first and second innings, Trevor Skon an RBI single in the second, and Austyn Young an RBI double in the second as North Idaho put together an 8-run rally. The Lakers scored three more runs between the third and fourth innings to secure the win. Swen was credited with the win on the mound after throwing 2 1/3 innings in relief, giving up one hit and four walks while striking out three batters.
