I grew up in the Tri-Cities, Wash., and have always loved to write. I attended the University of Washington, where I earned a double major in journalism and political science, with an area of emphasis in history. I am the fifth out of six kids — don't believe any of the stories that my siblings tell. To be able to tell others stories and take photos for a living is a dream come true — and I considered myself blessed to be a community journalist. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, hiking and spending time outdoors, genealogy, reading, and watching the UW Huskies and the Seattle Seahawks. I am a servant to my cat, Frankie, who yes, will eat anything and everything in sight … even wedding cookies. | July 2, 2024 1:00 AM

NAPLES — Idaho State Police is seeking any information or camera footage in connection to a Saturday early evening crash that claimed the lives of two people.

Specifically of interest to the agency is any information or video showing a dark blue Ford F-150 pickup truck that was witnessed turning westbound onto Schoolhouse Road from the northbound lane on U.S. 95 around the time of the crash, which happened just before 5 p.m. Saturday, June 29.

Idaho State Police said the driver of a white 2019 Toyota SUV, a 73-year-old Boundary County resident, died at the scene of the three-vehicle crash. State police reported that the man's 71-year-old female passenger succumbed to her injuries Monday.

ISP officials said the accident occurred when a commercial motor vehicle driven by a 24-year-old male, from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, was northbound in a 2023 red Freightliner with a reefer trailer on the highway when he lost control when he had to brake suddenly to avoid stopped vehicles. The semi skidded into the southbound lane striking two passenger vehicles head-on.

The first vehicle impacted was the Toyota SUV, driven by the 73-year-old male with the 71-year-old female passenger, both Boundary County residents. The second passenger vehicle struck was a white 2011 Kia Sorento driven by a 33-year-old man from Athol. He sustained minor injuries and was released at the scene.

The commercial driver was uninjured.

Everyone involved was wearing their seatbelts. The highway was fully blocked for nearly five hours. The next of kin has been notified.

The crash remains under investigation by the Idaho State Police. Assisting agencies: Boundary County Sheriff, South Boundary EMS, Boundary County Ambulance, Bonners Ferry Police Department, and Office of Emergency Management.

Any witnesses are asked to call 208-209-8730.
