A Libby man is jailed after authorities say he beat up his wife and attempted to assault another person who intervened in the incident.

Gregory Thomas Moss, 29, is facing charges of aggravated assault, partner or family member assault and strangulation of a partner or family member. Moss is being held in the Lincoln County Detention Center on $60,000 bail, set by Justice of the Peace Jay Sheffield.

Court documents indicate Moss has a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 3.

He was arrested by Libby police officer Don Luthey following an incident at 4:15 a.m. June 23 at an East Sixth Street residence. According to the charging document, a woman received numerous injuries, including a broken collarbone, hair being pulled from her head as well as numerous bruises, cuts and contusions, at three separate locations.

Luthey reported that Moss tried to choke the woman twice before slamming her head into a vehicle door window. He then drug her from the vehicle where she fell to the ground. Later, at the residence, during another fight, his wife tried to protect a juvenile when Moss allegedly struck her several times before placing her in a choke hold. He also allegedly bit her.

According to the court document, Moss attempted to assault a neighbor who tried to intervene. The neighbor subdued Moss, who ended up with a broken right collarbone, a rib fracture and a broken upper jaw.

Moss was taken to Cabinet Peaks Medical Center, cleared and booked into the county jail. He did not make a statement to law enforcement.

A conviction for aggravated assault may result in a 20-year term in the Montana State Prison. The maximum term on the strangulation charge is five years.

Montana State Prison records indicate Moss received a 10-year sentence, with five years suspended, for a 2019 burglary conviction in Lincoln County for which he is still on probation.
