POST FALLS — Kootenai County Fire and Rescue responded to a fire Wednesday morning in Post Falls that resulted in significant damage to a home.

Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Chief Chris Way said the initial call at 7:23 a.m. stated that 10 people were possibly trapped in the house at the intersection of Meadow Lane and Sundance Drive, but no injuries were reported.

“It took us about an hour to put it under control and then another hour to mop it up and put out hotspots, but we have the fire under control. There's significant damage to the kitchen area, the living room, the garage and the attic space,” Way said.

The fire was kept away from bedrooms and the basement of the residence. A vehicle parked near the garage was damaged.

While the cause of the fire is under investigation, it is believed it started in the garage.

“One of the residents of the household opened the door to the garage, and that helped the fire spread,” Way said.

Kootenai County Fire and Rescue received assistance from Post Falls Police Department, Coeur d’Alene Fire Department and Avista Utilities.
