Sandpoint man arrested on charges of kidnapping, rape

I’ve spent most of my life in northeastern Washington and graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2021. After that, I spent roughly two years working for a small online newspaper in North Seattle before realizing big city living wasn’t for me. Me and my pup, Kodak, headed east, where we eventually landed in Sandpoint. When I’m not writing, you can find me spending time exercising and taking photos. I ran two half marathons in high school and after spending the past few years recovering from various injuries, I’m hoping to complete my first full marathon by the end of the year. I also love any outdoor activity, none of which would be complete without my dog. Kodak and I love going for walks and hikes, and I can’t wait to try to convince him to get in my kayak and spend the hot months of the year on Lake Pend Oreille. While he’s not a fan of baths, he sure does love chasing the ducks. | July 15, 2024 7:00 AM
SANDPOINT — A local man has been arrested after allegedly kidnapping and raping a woman in the City Beach parking lot.
On June 30, the alleged victim told deputies she met up with 24-year-old Kent Nasin after meeting him a few days earlier at his place of employment. The alleged victim got into Nasin’s car and the pair allegedly parked near the Statue of Liberty at City Beach. After a brief period, the alleged victim told deputies she no longer wanted to be around Nasin and told him she needed to go home.
However, according to a probable cause affidavit, Nasin would not drive her back to her vehicle, and allegedly grabbed the back of her neck and began aggressively kissing her. According to court documents, the alleged victim told Nasin she didn’t want to do anything and she needed to go home.
Nasin allegedly continued to refuse to drive her back to her vehicle, instead grabbing her again to kiss her, then attempted to direct her head, asking her to perform sexual acts on him. She allegedly continuously pulled her hands away and repeatedly told him to stop.
“She again told him she needed to go home,” a deputy wrote in the probable cause affidavit. “He then started aggressively choking and pushing her head back against the seat.”
Court records contend Nasin began to forcibly perform sexual acts on her after choking her. When she continued to refuse these advances, Nasin allegedly began performing sexual acts on himself at the same time.
After a few minutes, court records contend that Nasin stopped what he was doing, pulled his pants back up, and drove the alleged victim to her car.
Nasin was arrested for two counts of forcible penetration by use of a foreign object, sexual battery, attempted sexual battery, battery with intent to commit a serious felony, and second-degree kidnapping.
Nasin’s bail has been set at $200,000. His arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 1. An arraignment is a formal reading of the criminal charges in the presence of the defendant to inform them of what they are being charged with. The accused may be expected to enter a plea of guilty or not guilty during an arraignment.
