I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | July 18, 2024 3:50 PM

MOSCOW — Jorden Tyler went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and got the win on the mound as the second-seeded 19U North Idaho Lakers scored four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to defeat the seventh-seeded Prairie Cardinals 8-4 in the first round of the District A Class A American Legion baseball tournament held Thursday at Bear Field.

Down 2-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Lakers were finally able to string together multiple hits in a row. Finn Mellander, who also had multiple hits in the contest, hit an RBI double, Tyler an RBI single to tie the game 2-2. A couple of at-bats later, Chase Sanroman hit an RBI single followed by an RBI double by Coleman Inge and North Idaho took a 4-2 lead. After giving up a run in the top half of the fifth inning, the Lakers went on another four-run rally. Tyler and Cole Sanroman both hit RBI singles to lead the charge.

The Lakers were able to finish things off thanks to some stellar pitching. Tyler, as impressive as he was at the plate, was also impressive on the mound. The Sandpoint High rising senior threw three quality innings in relief, giving up one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out three batters. Parker Reichart, who also contributed an RBI in the fifth inning, pitched two scoreless relief innings, giving up just one hit. Dallen Williams struck out three of the five batters he faced in the final frame to help the Lakers secure the victory.

North Idaho (17-11) will face the third-seeded Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen on Friday at 2 p.m. The Lumbermen defeated the sixth-seeded Camas Prairie Zephyrs 14-9 on Thursday.
