MOSES LAKE — The Moses Lake TCC store will give away backpacks again this year Sunday, according to an announcement from Round Room, Inc., the parent company of TCC.

The giveaway will begin at 1 p.m. at the Verizon TCC store at 221 S. Pioneer Way, according to the announcement. This is the 12th year Round Room has held the “School Rocks Backpack Giveaway.”

With backpacks being a higher ticket item on the school supplies list and the average cost of supplies for families being around $890, Round Room hopes to alleviate some of the financial burden associated with school for the local families they serve, according to the announcement. Any leftover backpacks will be donated to local schools.

The company carries out the same giveaway at more than 1,100 locations on the same day, according to the announcement. The company expects to give away backpacks worth more than $3 million to 120,000 students nationwide this year.

“All at the same time, on the same Sunday afternoon, there’s a simultaneous period of giving at our TCC and Wireless Zone stores around the country. It’s a beautiful thing,” Round Room CEO Scott Moorehead wrote in the announcement. “We believe in the power of community and the importance of education, which is why this initiative is so important to everyone throughout the Round Room organization. Our corporate team, store owners, and store employees work hard to make this happen every year because they genuinely want to make a profound impact. They want to help ensure every student has the basic tools they need to start the school year off on the right foot.”

More information is available at www.tccrocks.com/backpack-giveaway or by calling the local store at 509-765-0765.
