I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | July 26, 2024 4:00 PM

POST FALLS — Jack Schriber was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and the Sandpoint Sasquatch 15U scored eight runs in the fourth inning to capture an 11-10 victory over the River City Premier 16U to start off the Joy Shuman Memorial Tournament, which is being held July 26 to 28 at Post Falls High.

Down 8-1 heading into the bottom of the third inning, the game looked out of reach, but Sandpoint’s bats eventually got hot. In the fourth, Daniel Holman, Carson Resso, and Landon Day all hit RBI singles to give the Sasquatch a 9-8 lead. Tied 9-9 heading into the top of the fifth, Schriber hit a two-run double to extend Sandpoint’s lead to two runs. In the bottom half of the inning, the last inning of the contest, Benson Brown got out of a bases loaded jam to lift the Sasquatch to an 11-10 victory. Brown was credited with the win on the mound after 3 2/3 relief innings, giving up six hits, four walks and three earned runs while striking out three batters.

At the plate, Daniel Vincent also had multiple hits for the Sasquatch while Resso had two RBIs. Nathan Beardsall added a double.

The Sandpoint Sasquatch 15U will play the Spokane Expos 16U (4 p.m.) and the Crew 16U Black of Spokane (6 p.m.) Saturday. Bracket play will begin Sunday. Results and recap on the rest of the tournament will be reported in Tuesday’s Daily Bee.
