One dead after Coeur d'Alene police respond to gunshots, house fire

One person is dead after a man barricaded himself inside a residence that went up in flames, according to the Coeur d’Alene Police Department.
Police responded around 2 p.m. Sunday to reports of gunshots in the area of Ninth Street and West Spokane Avenue.
A man outside the residence had a rifle slung across his back, police said. He allegedly did not comply with commands from police and went inside.
Soon after, police said, “it became evident the house had been set on fire” and officers reported hearing gunshots from inside. The residence was fully engulfed in flames by the time fire crews arrived.
Detectives have found one person deceased inside the residence, according to police.
