TRAVEL BASEBALL: Eacret, Beardsall impressive at Joy Shuman

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | July 29, 2024 5:00 PM
POST FALLS — Even though the Sandpoint Sasquatch 15U travel baseball team fell in their three remaining games at the Joy Shuman Memorial Tournament held July 26-28 at Post Falls High, Nathan Beardsall and Bode Eacret put up some particularly impressive performances.
After defeating the River City Premier for the first time this season on Friday, the Sasquatch were tasked with a tough Spokane squad. Unable to muster up much offense, Sandpoint fell 11-1 to the Expos 16U. Beardsall, a rising sophomore at Timberlake High, and Eacret, a rising sophomore at Sandpoint High, had the Sasquatch’s only two hits in the contest.
Immediately following their loss to the Expos, Sandpoint went on to face the Crew Black 16U of Spokane. Down 7-2 heading into the top of the fourth, the Sasquatch got RBI singles from Dallen Williams and Sage Medeiros and cut the deficit to two runs. Sandpoint was unable to knock a hit the rest of the contest and the Crew took home a 7-5 victory. Medeiros struck out nine batters over six innings on the mound in the loss.
On Sunday, the final day of the tournament, the Sasquatch matched up against the Prairie Cardinals Black 16U of Post Falls in bracket play. Sandpoint was unable to plate any runs, falling 4-0, but Eacret put together a terrific performance for the Sasquatch. On the mound, he gave up seven hits, four walks and three earned runs over six innings in order to grab a quality start. At the plate, he was 2-for-2 with two doubles. Beardsall also singled in the contest — he had a hit in all four of Sandpoint’s tourney games.
