MATTAWA — Grant County detectives are investigating the suspected fentanyl overdose death of a 16-year-old Mattawa girl, according to a Wednesday statement from the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the statement, the girl’s father drove her to Fire Station 81, about one and a half miles north of Mattawa, around 12:45 p.m. Monday after he came home during his lunch break and found the girl unconscious and unresponsive. EMTs tried to revive the girl, but she was declared dead.

The girl’s body is in the care of Coroner Craig Morrison, whose staff were scheduled to conduct an autopsy Wednesday, the statement said. The girl’s death is under investigation by the Grant County Sheriff’s Major Crimes Unit and the Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team.

The statement asked anyone with information to call the INET tip line at 509-766-3194. Callers can remain anonymous.
