LEGION BASEBALL: 16U Lakers take on first tourney of season

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 6 months AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | June 10, 2024 2:15 PM

POST FALLS — The 16U North Idaho Lakers fought hard at the fifth annual Premier Sports Invitational held June 7-9 at various Post Falls High fields, but fell in all four matchups against teams from Washington, Idaho and Montana.

The first game of the tournament against the 15U Missoula Eagles was the Lakers’ closest contest. Hayden Miller, who went 5-for-9 at the plate throughout the tourney, had an RBI single and a triple while Trevor Skon went 2-for-2 with two singles and two RBIs for North Idaho. The Eagles, however, used a fifth-run fourth inning to capture a slim 6-5 victory.

The Lakers would fall to the 16U Crew Black of Spokane (11-1), 16U Prairie Brown of Post Falls (11-3) and the Mt. Spokane Wild of Mead (10-0) during the next three games of the tournament.

The 16U North Idaho Lakers (0-6) will be back in action at home on Tuesday against Prairie.
