LEGION BASEBALL: 19U Lakers power past Prairie Falls

MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 5 months AGO
by MAX OSWALD
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | June 19, 2024 8:00 PM

19U Lakers

SANDPOINT — Mason Little and Finn Mellander both had multiple hits and the 19U North Idaho Lakers scored runs in four different innings to capture a 5-3 win over the Prairie Falls Cardinals on Tuesday at War Memorial Field.

For the fourth straight game, the Lakers scored in the first inning. Sage Medeiros hit an RBI triple, the only extra-base hit of the game, to deep center field and then scored on a wild pitch during the next at-bat. In the second, Little extended the lead to three runs with an RBI single to center. However, the Cardinals knotted things up at three with a three-run top of the third. Later on, Medeiros drew a walk with the bases loaded in the fourth and Coleman Inge hit an RBI single to left to score Greysen Johnson in the fifth to help the Lakers secure the victory.

On the mound, Medeiros started off the game with 1 ⅔ innings pitched, giving up just one hit, no earned runs and three walks while striking out four batters. Dallen Williams then battled for 3 ⅓ innings, picking up the win after giving up four hits, three earned runs and two walks while striking out three batters. Chase Sanroman made his first appearance of the year and notched a save. He threw two no-hit innings and gave up just one walk while striking out one batter.

North Idaho (7-3) will travel to Libby for the Libby Big Bucks Tournament set to be held June 21-23 at Lee Gehring Field. The Lakers are slated to face the Bitterroot Bucks, the Mission Valley Mariners and Central Alberta during the first two days of action.
