TRAVEL BASEBALL: Sandpoint Sasquatch 16U wins CDA’s Memorial Day Invite
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 9 months AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | June 19, 2024 1:00 AM
COEUR d’ALENE — The Sandpoint Sasquatch 16U travel baseball team recently won the Memorial Day Invite held May 25-26 at Thorco Field in Coeur d’Alene.
On the first day of the tournament, the Sasquatch started things off with a 16-1 win over the CDA Lumbermen 16U. Sandpoint then fell 11-1 to a tough 16U Gonzaga Prep squad to close out the first day of action.
On the second day, the team rallied to pick up a 14-1 victory over the Northern Lakes Mountaineers 16U, and after tying 5-5 against the Kalispell Lakers Red 16U, went on to win the championship 11-10 in a rematch against the Lumbermen.
“It’s early in the season and the team played well with strong starting pitching and relievers along with an offense that was disciplined at the plate from the first pitch through the end of the tournament,” head coach Tyler Lehman said. “The boys earned the championship.”
The Sandpoint Sasquatch 16U will be back in action June 20-23 at the Flathead Lake 'B' Invitational in Kalispell.
