Coeur d’Alene man dies in helicopter crash

A helicopter crash that killed two men near Davenport, Wash., on Wednesday remains under investigation.
Officials identified the men who died in the crash as 63-year-old Coeur d’Alene resident Mark Manteuffel and 68-year-old Spokane resident Ryan Sandvig.
Manteuffel worked in emergency medicine for more than 30 years, including 26 years at Kootenai Health, and was the owner of CDA Flight Medicine. He ran for Kootenai County coroner in 2022.
Firefighters responded to an aircraft down in a private field around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Lincoln County Fire District 6. The crash sparked a wildfire about 1 acre in size, which fire crews contained.
