SOAP LAKE — Registration is open for a week-long summer drama camp sponsored by the Masquers Theater in Soap Lake. Camp begins July 22 with the finale performance July 26.

The camp will be open to boys and girls eight to 15 years of age, and the first 35 registrations will be accepted, according to a Masquers press release.

The campers will present the musical “Captain Bree and Her Lady Pirates.” Masquers veteran Clifford Bresee is the director.

The play tells the tale of the good ship Kayla May, on its way to Tortuga when it’s cited by pirates. The crew takes fright and jumps ship, leaving Captain Jennings facing the dilemma of getting the Kayla May, the passengers and prisoners in the brig to safe harbor. The pirates, led by the redoubtable Captain Bree, want gold in exchange for the ship and the souls aboard. But then the British Navy arrives, which is good, but they want to hang Cap’n Bree and her crew along with Captain Jennings, which is bad.

Registration is $35 for the first child, with family discounts available. Bresee said all 35 children will be guaranteed a role. Parents can register and get more information on the Masquers website, www.masquers.com.
