Candidates file for county, state offices
LAUREN REICHENBACH | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 9 months AGO
I’ve spent most of my life in northeastern Washington and graduated from Eastern Washington University in 2021. After that, I spent roughly two years working for a small online newspaper in North Seattle before realizing big city living wasn’t for me. Me and my pup, Kodak, headed east, where we eventually landed in Sandpoint. When I’m not writing, you can find me spending time exercising and taking photos. I ran two half marathons in high school and after spending the past few years recovering from various injuries, I’m hoping to complete my first full marathon by the end of the year. I also love any outdoor activity, none of which would be complete without my dog. Kodak and I love going for walks and hikes, and I can’t wait to try to convince him to get in my kayak and spend the hot months of the year on Lake Pend Oreille. While he’s not a fan of baths, he sure does love chasing the ducks. | March 16, 2024 1:00 AM
May’s election will feature a packed ballot as numerous Bonner County residents filed for candidacy before the filing period closed at 5 p.m. Friday.
The primary election — which will be held May 21 — will include races for U.S. representatives, state legislators, judicial offices, and county races.
This year in Bonner County, current Assessor Dennis Engelhardt is running unopposed.
While five individuals filed for the Bonner County Commissioner District 1 seat — currently held by Steve Bradshaw — one withdrew at the beginning of March and only four are expected to appear on the ballot in May. Sagle resident Meghan Yeats is the only District 1 candidate running as under the Democratic party. James Burroughs, Brian Domke and Brian Riley are running as Republicans.
The District 3 seat also saw some last-minute candidates. The sitting commissioner, Luke Omodt, is running for reelection, but has four opponents.
Dimitry Borisov, Jeff Glass and Ron Korn are all running for the District 3 seat under the Republican party. Glenn Lefebvre has chosen to run as an independent candidate, meaning his name will only appear on the November ballot.
Bonner County Prosecutor Louis Marshall will run for his seat again unopposed.
In what many are calling a surprising turn of events, Bonner County Sheriff Daryl Wheeler has an opponent on the ballot as he runs for reelection — current District 1 Commissioner Steve Bradshaw.
Now that filing has officially closed, the Idaho Secretary of State’s Office will review candidate applications to verify each one’s eligibility. The candidates who meet the requirements to run for office are available to view at voteidaho.gov.
Candidates may choose to withdraw from the primary election through March 29.
