A Canada goose turns to honk at a dog that chased it in Lake Coeur d'Alene at City Beach on Monday. Dogs are not allowed in city parks. There are five off-leash dog parks in Coeur d'Alene at Atlas Mill, Cherry Hill, McEuen, Northshire, and Riverstone.

COEUR d’ALENE — Not even the luck of the Irish can get the record-high temperature set in Coeur d’Alene on St. Patrick's Day to stick around.
In fact, enjoy it while you can, because it won't last.
“Temperatures could fall by nearly 50 degrees,” said Climatologist Cliff Harris.
He said it hit 71 degrees Sunday, besting the previous St. Patrick’s Day record-high of 70 degrees in Coeur d’Alene set March 17, 1972.
People were out and about in shorts and tank tops on what Harris called “the most beautiful St. Patrick’s Day anywhere."
It was also sunny and warm for Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day parade, which brought out thousands who lined downtown Sherman Avenue.
Sunshine is expected through today, with highs in the mid-60s fanned by warm southwest winds. But don’t count winter out.
Cold northeast winds are headed this way and expected to arrive by this weekend. Harris is calling for snow Saturday and Sunday, “at least in the morning,” with lows dipping into the 20s.
Weather for the rest of March is expected to be mostly rainy and cold, with highs in the 40s, a typical North Idaho spring.
“We’re in a pattern of extremes,” Harris said.

Bean there, done that
That, however, is nothing compared to Charles Bean. The Coeur d’Alene attorney is what is known as a perennial, those who have run every Bloomsday. They are rare, fewer than 100. Bean, at 77, remembers well that inaugural year. He was a basketball player, not a runner, and in good shape. He competed on what he called a week’s worth of training.

This is the 20th anniversary of the national event and the second year that Coeur d’Alene’s Historic Preservation Commission is actively participating with events and community outreach planned throughout the month of May.
