PREP TRACK AND FIELD: Sandpoint sets two new school records at Lewiston Invitational
MAX OSWALD | Hagadone News Network | UPDATED 1 year, 8 months AGO
I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | March 22, 2024 6:10 PM
LEWISTON — Sandpoint’s Jett Longanecker, Daniel Ricks, Nathan Roche, and Kasten Grimm set a new school record in the 4x800 relay while Ivy Smith bested her own school record in the shot put, leading the girls to a team title win at the Lewiston Invitational on Friday.
The boys’ 4x800 time was 8:15.84, which equates to an impressive 2:03.96 seconds per runner. Ricks and Roche also placed first and second in the 800, respectively. Longanecker was second in the 400 with a new personal best time of 51.42 seconds. Van Lee placed third in the pole vault, Paul Kent fourth in the 1600 for the Bulldogs.
"Jett's 400 was huge for us," head coach Doug Fry said. "He did that after running in the 4x8; his 400 is really coming around."
For the girls, Ivy Smith bested her own school record from last weekend (42 feet, one inch), throwing a new personal best mark of 43 feet and 10 inches. Elia Howard won the 100 in 13.18 seconds and placed fourth in the long jump.
"Elia is up-and-coming; she has been doing amazing for us," Fry said.
Jetta Thaete placed second in javelin, Grace Rookey second in the 800, and Sienna Todd-Murray second in the 3200. Devin McDaniel took home another victory in the pole vault with a new personal best mark of 11 feet and 3 inches. The girls’ 4x800, which consisted of Rookey, Bria Rocke, Lily Richardson, and Elizabeth Storms, also took home gold with a time of 10:32.21.
