NIC SOFTBALL: Cardinals romp past Columbia Basin

PASCO, Wash. — Freshman pitcher Kristine Schmidt struck out four in four shutout innings for North Idaho College, which beat Columbia Basin 9-1 in the first game of a Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday.
Sophomore Kennedy Hobson hit a two-run home run in the second inning for NIC. Tayler Thomas had two RBIs for the Cardinals (13-2, 5-0 NWAC) in the first game.
The second game was suspended in the bottom of the 8th inning tied at 12-12 due to darkness.
NIC is scheduled to play a doubleheader at Walla Walla today at noon.
Columbia Basin is 10-7, 0-3.
