I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | March 23, 2024 4:15 PM

SANDPOINT – Sandpoint fought through the pouring rain, scoring six goals in the second quarter en route to a 9-5 win over Kamiakin at War Memorial Field on Saturday.

Tied 1-1 after the first quarter, Kayla Beers, Rowan Davis, and Cassidy Aitken all scored two goals each in the second to help the Bulldogs to a 7-3 halftime lead. In the second half, Sandpoint got out to a 9-3 lead early in the fourth before giving up a couple of goals late.

"Our offense was working really well," head coach Nancy Dooley said. "We were feeding each other well. Rowan, Kayla, and Cassidy all had nice cuts and passes."

Davis and Aitken both finished the contest with three goals each; Davis also added two assists. Terra Bode tallied one goal, one assist, and controlled six draws. Marin Browne and Josie Cox added one assist apiece for the Bulldogs.

"We had a ton of shots on goal," Dooley said. "We have to work on moving the goalie a little better and put up some more sophisticated shots, so that will come. Overall, I'm very pleased with today's performance and we will continue to improve."

Dooley said the defense also played well, noting she was particularly pleased with how her freshman reserves came in and played off the bench. She also mentioned how Beers, Grace Gavin, and Abigail Baker stepped up big in the absence of the Bulldogs' best two defenders and that Eva Sloan was fierce in goal.

Sandpoint (2-0) will host to Mead on Tuesday.
