COEUR d'ALENE — The season's snowfall has topped 50 inches.

Climatologist Cliff Harris said 1.3 inches of snow fell Sunday morning and another 1.4 on Monday morning, both in four-hour windows. That brought the season's total to 50.8 inches.

"Those were the two days I said we could get some snow," Harris said.

So far, 14.1 inches has fallen in March, more than double the normal March snowfall of of 6.7 inches.

"We've had quite a March, to say the least," Harris said. "Once El Niño fell apart, we could get winter."

He believes this is a prelude to next winter, when he is already predicting 90 to 100 inches of snow because La Niña will create colder conditions.

Harris believes Coeur d'Alene could even see snow in April.

"We've see it before in this kind of pattern," he said.
