PREP ROUNDUP: Williams throws complete game two-hitter as Sandpoint splits twinbill with Bonners Ferry

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | March 28, 2024 9:15 PM

BONNERS FERRY — Sandpoint’s Dallen Williams was near perfect in Game 1 as the Bulldogs split a pair of games with Bonners Ferry at Badger Field Thursday night.
In Game 1, Sandpoint scored three runs in the top of the seventh to put the game out of reach, eventually winning 5-1 after Williams retired the side in the final frame. The sophomore went seven innings on the mound, giving up just two hits and no earned runs while striking out five batters.
Sophomore Soren Caprio and junior Drew Lehman both had RBI singles and two hits each in the win. Sophomores Mason Little and Sage Medeiros also put together multi-hit efforts to help lift the Bulldogs to victory.
In Game 2, the Bulldogs got on the board early, leading 6-0 after three innings thanks to a second inning rally where both Williams and Lehman hit RBI singles. However, Bonners Ferry put up five runs in the fifth to tie the game, and then added on one more run in the sixth to take the lead. Thomas Bateman pitched a 1-2-3 top of the seventh inning to give the Badgers the victory. Bateman pitched three innings in relief and gave up just one lone hit.
Sandpoint’s Drew Lehman recorded two more singles in the Bulldogs’ Game 2 loss. On the day, he finished 4-for-8 with four singles and two RBIs. Caprio also notched another single in Game 2, putting him at 3-for-5 with three singles on the day. Little was 3-for-6 with two singles and a double.
