Soap Lake’s Sanchez-Cruz earns Athlete of the Week

SOAP LAKE — Soap Lake sophomore Jocsan Sanchez-Cruz was named an Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association on Thursday after helping the Eagles secure a 2-0 start to the season with a win over Tonasket. 

Sanchez-Cruz, with doubles partner Xavier Gonzales-Robinson, picked up an 8-1 win over Tonasket’s doubles team of Ezra Marland and Cody Singer that locked up a 3-2 match win at home on March 20.

According to the release, Sanchez-Cruz has maintained a 3.4 GPA while keeping up with his academics, tennis and assisting with Soap Lake’s GEAR UP program. Being nominated as a team captain, Sanchez-Cruz has guided his Eagle teammates throughout the young season, cheering them on during their matches and being a mentor.
