PINEHURST — A search warrant was served April 26 at a property on South Division Street and drugs were found, according to Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office reports.

This time, meth and drug paraphernalia were discovered during the execution of the warrant.

The residence at 2 S. Division St. is located not far from Pinehurst Elementary School, which has also been a factor in law enforcement’s interest in eliminating crime in the vicinity.

A prior raid resulted in a meth trafficking charge, but the location has been a growing source of concern for law enforcement for years, Shoshone County Sheriff's Office Capt. Seth Green said.  

“Some of the old traffic started to come back to it, and we had evidence drugs were being sold and used there again. Because of this, we decided to raid it again and will keep doing so until this behavior stops at this location,” Green said.

Agencies belonging to the Silver Valley Drug Task Force conducted the raid, including the Pinehurst Police Department, Kellogg Police Department, Shoshone Fire District No. 1 tactical medical team and the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office. 

Although they are not law enforcement, Shoshone County’s tactical medical team has trained to respond to situations in unsecured environments where immediate emergency medical responses may be needed before the crime scene can be cleared.

Shoshone County Commissioner Tracy Casady also attended the safety briefing and accompanied the task force members to Pinehurst while observing the process after the safety of the area had been established. 

“We appreciated her willingness to learn more about the resources it takes to complete such an operation. I highly encourage more people, especially citizens, to dive into their local agencies and learn more about what we do,” Green said. 

According to the sheriff’s office, Casady remained away from the scene when the raid occurred but observed the preparations before being allowed to survey the scene once the building had been cleared.

Green noted the extensive time and effort to make sure warrant executions like this go off without a hitch.

“It also helps to have her see why we need funding in certain areas and allows her to make sure we are operating as efficiently and safely as possible,” Green said.
