The Glacier National Park Volunteer Associates will be working on four projects this weekend in the park and are inviting the public to help.

The projects tentatively scheduled include emptying one garage and setting up another for park publications storage, along with working on the Apgar Education Center and readying the Fish Creek campground for opening. Work will take place on May 18.

According to Sharon Deemester with the Volunteer Associates, work includes emptying the Tally Ho garage where the park service stores sign materials and other odds and ends. It’s named Tally Ho because it previously housed a wagon called the Tally Ho.

Volunteers will be rearranging the park service’s publications in other garages and moving things from different areas. Publications, like the park’s newspaper, provide visitors with important information in Glacier.

Volunteers will be scraping and staining the Education Center porch and adjoining bathroom porch.

Work to get Fish Creek Campground ready for use includes collecting and disposing of brush, painting picnic tables, painting kiosks and potentially spreading gravel.

The day starts at 8:30 a.m. at the Community Building in West Glacier (look for signs just before the entrance station). The group will have coffee, tea and some snacks available, though volunteers are asked to bring their own mugs. After a short meeting with Glacier Park personnel, volunteers will break into work groups at 9:30 a.m. and work until about 3:30 p.m. at the latest. People are asked to wear work clothes and to bring water, lunch and some gloves.

The group is a nonprofit, all volunteer official park partner.

Those interested can RSVP at [email protected].
