'50s fun cruises into Sandpoint

I grew up in the Tri-Cities, Wash., and have always loved to write. SANDPOINT — The engines were revving, the music blasting and each classic car driving past brought cheers, hoots and hollers, and ooohs of admiration as Lost in the '50s kicked off with the annual car parade through the downtown Friday.
"I love all of it," Bob Bean said while waiting for the cars to arrive on First Avenue. "The cameraderie, the way the girls dress, the cars. I love it all."
Bean came to the parade with his brother, Joe, who lives near Spokane.
Like his brother, Joe Bean said being able to see all of the cars cruise through the downtown makes the event special.
"I guess I just like the nostalgia of it."
Neither brother said they had a favorite car, there are too many great cars of different styles and eras to pick.
However, they do have sentimental favorites, showing a photo of their great-grandfather's truck that remains in the family that Bob Bean is working to restore.
A lot of memories are tied up in the truck, and in the cars they get to enjoy as they drive past.
While the car parade and the street dance highlighted the fun downtown, Gary Lewis & the Playboys joined "house band" Rocky & the Rollers for the Friday night show.
After dancing the night away, head downtown as the cars you admired from the sidewalks pack the downtown core, giving everyone a chance to get a close-up view of cars from the early days, classic rides from the 1930s and '40s, and muscle cars from the 1960s and '70s.
Cars are parked, starting at 7 a.m., with the downtown open to classic car fans at 9:30 a.m. for a day-long celebration of great cars, great music, and plenty of fun. Awards are announced at about 3:45 p.m.
However, don't think that that is the end of the fun as the second of two great concerts again turns the fairgrounds into the best concert venue around as Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, and Peter Rivera and Celebrate, join Rocky & the Rollers.
Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels have over 50 charted hits, including "Come See About Me," "Just a Little Bit," and "Ooh Poo Pah Doo" (Jesse Hill). Among the hits by Peter Rivera and Celebrate are "I Just Want to Celebrate."
"The walls will be bursting with great music," Lost in the '50s officials said.
Lane McNutt, Tyson Symons, Kyler Wood and Albert Beard have fun watching classic cars during the Lost in the '50s car parade Friday. Hundreds of cars took part in the annual event which kicks off summer in Sandpoint.
