It happened: Aiden Krause set a new personal best and unofficial state record in the discus with a 193 feet, eight-inch throw at the Western AA divisional meet Saturday at Legends Stadium.

The throw is the farthest on record — Missoula Hellgate’s Dan Tabish threw 193-7 at the State AA meet in 1982 — by one inch. This is the third time Krause cleared the 190-foot mark this spring.

His victory in the event — and second of the meet after winning Friday’s shot put —  helped Glacier to a second-place finish in the team competition for the boys with 98 points.

Flathead scored 131 points to win the boys competition. Helena Capital finished third with 84 points and Helena High scored 65 points for fourth.

Ben Bliven and Brody Thornsberry helped the Braves to the team title with a pair of 1-2 finishes in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. Bliven got the better of his teammate in both races.

“We were all really, really tight around the 50-meter mark,” Bliven said. “I was able to kick it into second gear even though it’s a little tough with the head wind, but I’m really happy me and Brody were able to do that. It’s what we were hoping for.”

Flathead also secured a 1-2 finish in the 400 meters with William Hollensteiner setting a new personal best of 48.54 for the win, and Lane Chivers clocking a personal record 49.61 in second.

“I tried to come out hard out of the blocks and keep that speed down the back stretch,” Hollensteiner said. “It’s hard sometimes because you know no one is pushing you, but you have to keep up the mentality and keep on pushing yourself.”

Chivers and Hollensteiner also ran on the Flathead 1,600 relay team that took the victory in 3:21.66.

Glacier’s Ethan Anderson grabbed the victory in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.51 for his second victory of the meet — he also won the 300-meter hurdles Friday.

“I knew it was going to be competitive,” Anderson said. “I didn’t get out (of the blocks) quick enough, but luckily I hit the first hurdle well. The middle of the race I was cruising and felt really good, then the last hurdle I kind of nicked with my trail leg and stumbled across the finish line.”

Flathead also grabbed the team title in the girls competition with a total of 111.75 points, ahead of Hellgate (104), Glacier (90.5), and Helena (82).

Alivia Rinehart picked up a victory in the 200-meter dash for the Bravettes with a personal best 25.35 — good enough for second best in the state this spring.. She also finished third in the 100-meter hurdles ahead of teammate Bristol Lenz in fourth. That was after winning the 300 hurdles Friday.

Flathead also won the girls 1,600-meter relay with a time of 4:05.83 — the third best time in the state this season. Glacier finished third behind Hellgate with a time of .4:14.38.

The Wolfpack grabbed a 1-2 finish in the girls discus with Kai Johnson winning with a 119-4 throw. Rylee Bigelow finished second at 113-0.
