CRESCENT BAR — Identification is pending on a man found dead in a car near Ancient Lakes Road near Crescent Bar late Saturday afternoon.

“At about 4:20 this afternoon, citizens at Crescent Bar noticed the remains of a vehicle on a shale slide near Crescent Bar, probably 100 feet from the river’s shoreline,” wrote Kyle Foreman, public information officer for the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. “Some people went over to check it out, they found a body with the vehicle and they called 911.”

The vehicle was difficult to access and first responders had to use a boat to recover the remains from the car which appeared to have dropped about 1,000 feet by Foreman’s estimation.

The name of the man who died in the incident has not been released. The Grant County Coroner’s Office has custody of the remains and will work with the family and perform an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Additional details will be provided as they become available.
