COLUMBIA BASIN — The spring sports season comes to a close this week, with state championship events being held in baseball, boys soccer, golf, tennis, track and field and softball.

    Moses Lake junior Adrian Martinez lays down a bunt during a game against Davis. The Mavericks won both league and district titles this spring, culminating in an appearance in the 4A State Baseball Tournament.

    Quincy sophomore Ashton Barnes-Keller pitches during a March 9 matchup against the Ephrata Tigers. The Jacks finished the season with a 12-11 overall record.
 
 
    Almira/Coulee-Hartline freshman Grace Okamoto swings at a pitch during a game against Wellpinit on March 26. The Warriors finished the year with an 18-5 record, winning the Northeast 1B district championship.
 
 
    Othello senior Xzyan Martinez keeps his eye on the pitcher while leading off second base during a game against Prosser on April 13. Othello finished the season with an 18-6 record, finishing in second place in the CWAC and reached the league’s district championship game.
 
 
    State track and field championship meets begin on Thursday, with the Ephrata Tigers competing in 15 total events at the boys and girls meets in Tacoma.
 
 
    Royal senior Randi Allred waits for a pitch during a doubleheader against Eastmont. The Knights, one of six local teams competing in state softball tournaments this week, play Klahowya on Thursday in the first round of the 1A State Softball Tournament in Richland.

CHENEY – Eastern fell in straight sets to Sacramento State on Wednesday night, according to a statement from EWU athletics. The Eagles were led by Kalista Lukovich and Alyssa Radke with seven kills apiece, while Elle Bruegman anchored the defense with 14 digs. Eastern also continued to showcase one of its season-long strengths at the net, out-blocking the Hornets 9–3 with seven solo blocks.
