For half an inning, it looked like the streak was over.

Plains was up 7-0 in their Western Divisional play-in softball game in Troy. And it was not just a trip to divisional play at stake, the large early lead was a good sign that the season long losing streak was going to end in the home park of the Lady Trojans.

Teirainy Bellinger scored the first run for the Trotters when she singled , stole second, moved to third on a single by Tia Bellinger, then scored on a wild pitch.

Emma O’Keefe then drove in a pair of runs with a single, followed by another single from the bat of Randie Kilgore, making it 4-0 Plains.

Three more singles, by Trystan Larsen, Jaelyn Carr and Terainy Bellinger pumped up the Trotter’s lead to 7-0.

Game seemingly in control.

But it was not to be for the young Plains team when Troy erupted for 12 runs in the bottom of the first inning, erasing the Trotters’ lead and dimming their hopes of victory.

Troy pitching settled down in the top of the second, holding Plains scoreless.

Then, in the bottom of the second inning, the Lady Trojans exploded for 16 more run in their half of the inning, invoking the Mercy rule and ending the game and the Plains’ season.

The final score was 28-7, leaving the Trotters with a 0-15 final record for the year. Troy was eliminated from the Divisional tournament in two straight games.
