LEGION BASEBALL: Day’s big day pushes 19U Lakers past Lums

I grew up in the small town of Orwigsburg, Pa., where I resided all of my life before moving to Sandpoint. I attended Blue Mountain High School, where I participated in cross country and track and field, a sport that I ended up falling in love with. I went on to attend and run for DeSales University (with other brief stints at Susquehanna University and Elizabethtown College) and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sport communication with a minor in sport management. I remember just how great it made me feel when I was mentioned in my hometown newspaper. I want to be able to give that feeling to every athlete in Bonner County, no matter how big or small their accomplishments are. As an athlete myself, I know how many hours of work are put in on a daily basis, and that hard work deserves to be recognized. It is my goal to cover as much of the Bulldogs, Spartans and Wampus Cats as I can. I want to work with every athlete, parent, coach, administrator and the community to ensure the best stories are published. | May 29, 2024 8:10 PM

COEUR d’ALENE — Gavin Day hit two-run singles in both the third and fifth innings, an RBI double in the seventh, and the 19U North Idaho Lakers took down the Coeur d’Alene Lumbermen 14-2 at Thorco Field on Wednesday.

To start the Lakers off, Jacob Hansen hit an RBI single up the middle in the second inning for the first run of the game. In the third, fifth, and seventh, with Day leading the charge, the Lakers put up four runs in all three innings en route to victory. In the fifth, both Jorden Tyler and Soren Caprio hit RBI singles to right field to extend the lead to 10-1. In addition to Day’s RBI double in the seventh, Finn Mellander and Tyler both hit RBI doubles of their own to give North Idaho a 14-1 advantage.

Sage Medeiros was 3-for-3 with three singles for the second time this season; he is now batting 7-for-8 after the first three games. Day finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs. 12 of the Lakers’ 15 hits on the night were singles.

Dallen Williams picked up his second win of the year with another dominant performance on the mound.
