Veterans Day events planned in community

The Boundary County Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at the Memorial Exhibit Hall at the Boundary County Fairgrounds on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.
This year’s ceremony has been organized by Joseph Knight, U.S. Army veteran and American Legion Post 55 commander. Knight will also host and lead the call to order.
The invocation will be led by Navy veteran Jeffery Phillips.
After the invocation, is the presentation of the colors by Air Force veteran Tom Chaney of the American Legion Color Guard.
Bonners Ferry Choir is to sing “The Star Spangled Banner,” which will be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The choir will then perform “My America,” an original piece by Samuel F. Smith and revised by Joyce Eilers.
The guest speaker this year is Air Force nurse JoAnn Danner. Danner and Edward Belakiewicz are slated to receive honorary Veterans Day quilts, which will be presented by Bonners Ferry quilter Margaret Payette.
The ceremony will come to an end as the color guard is called to attention, “Taps” is sounded by Air Force veteran Ron Mcllnay, followed by the ringing of the bell by Navy Veteran, Ben Apo, and then the color guard will retrieve the colors.
Lunch will be served at noon and is free to all veterans, as well as by donation to any who would like to give. The meal is being catered by Tartan and Thistle.
Naples Elementary is inviting veterans to join the students for a free lunch. The lunch will be held Monday, Nov. 11, at 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Call 208-267-2956 to RSVP by Monday, Nov. 11, at 8 a.m.
Mt. Hall Elementary is inviting families and friends to honor all who served, at a special event on Nov. 11 at 3:10 p.m. Veterans are asked to arrive early for refreshments.
Kootenai River Inn Casino and Spa is offering $11 in free bonus play in the casino. Veterans will also receive $11 off a meal from 11 a.m. until close. Those taking part must show a valid military ID and mention the Veterans Day offer.
Mi Pueblo Mexican Restaurant is offering free meals for veterans from noon to 6 p.m. Meals are donated by Coldwell Banker Northwoods Realty. Excludes alcoholic beverages.
