SANDPOINT — Bonner County Republican Central Committee Chair Scott Herndon has announced a special meeting to choose nominees to replace Steven Bradshaw as commissioner for District 1.

In a Thursday email, Herndon alleged Bradshaw had sold his Cocolalla area property and moved to Texas with the intention of making Texas his permanent home. By doing so, Herndon said, Bradshaw relinquished his seat on the Bonner County Board of Commissioners.

“I have driven by his home, and it is vacated. Also, the church building is being remodeled by contractors.” Herndon said. “A few weeks ago, Steve visited different county offices to bid his farewell.”

Herndon also claimed that in an August conversation, Bradshaw said he would be resigning by Oct. 1.

In his role as auditor, Mike Rosedale said he has not received a resignation from Bradshaw.

Bradshaw disputed Herndon’s claim that he has moved to Texas.

“If owning a piece of real estate in another state is an issue, then I guess half of our county and the state legislators have an issue,” Bradshaw said, in response to Herndon’s email. “I have not declared residency other (sic) than Bonner County Idaho. But good try Scotty boy.”

The last business meeting that Bradshaw attended in person was Oct. 8, but he did attend the Oct. 22 business meeting remotely.

Herndon said the BCRCC will proceed with filling the District 1 seat despite Bradshaw’s assertion that he has not declared residency anywhere other than Bonner County.

To fill a vacancy on a board of county commissioners, according to Idaho statute, the county central committee of the same political party as the former member submits a list of three nominations to the governor within 15 days. The governor then has 15 days to appoint one of the nominees to fill the vacancy. If the governor has not appointed someone to the vacant position within 15 days, then the county central committee designates one of the three nominees to fill the vacancy.

The special meeting to choose three nominees to send to Governor Brad Little will take place at the Ponderay Event Center at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, just ahead of the BCRCC’s regularly scheduled meeting.
