Several events planned in county for Veterans Day

Veterans Day is Monday, Nov. 11 and several events are planned across south Lincoln County to honor and recognize U.S. military veterans who served and sacrificed for our country.

At 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Kootenai Valley Christian School will hold its annual program at the Libby Christian Church. 

Saturday night, the Libby American Legion Post 97 on California Avenue will host a Veterans Day dinner and program from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. All Legion members are welcome. A guest from the Heritage Museum will speak.

Also, on Saturday night, the Harper Erdman VFW Post 1548 in Libby will have a dinner at 6 p.m. followed by the Quilts of Valor presentations at 7 p.m. by members of the Kootenai Valley Quilt Guild.

At 5 p.m. Sunday, Troy Community Baptist Church is holding a Veterans and family relief fundraiser. 

A spaghetti dinner is available for $5 a person, there will be games for all ages, a silent auction, raffles, bunco and a cornhole tournament.

At 8:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, Troy High School will host a Veterans Day assembly at 8:30 a.m. in the auditorium. Breakfast for veterans will follow.

The assembly will include a slide show of local veterans.

Also, Libby Middle High School will hold a Veterans Day assembly at 10:15 a.m. Monday in the gymnasium. It is open to the public.

At 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 11, veterans past and present will be honored at the Lincoln County Veterans Memorial in Riverfront Park in Libby.

Eighth-grade students will share facts and figures on the wars U.S. soldiers have fought in while high school students will perform the National Anthem and play Taps.
