Lorraine Gertrude Ondov, 99
Daily Inter-Lake | UPDATED 4 days, 23 hours AGO
Lorraine Gertrude Ondov, 99, was called home to her Lord and Savior on Oct. 8, 2024. She was born June 25, 1925, to Otto and Rose Juengel and grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota during the depression and then World War II. She lost a brother to the war and outlived her other two brothers and a sister. Lorraine was valedictorian of Theodore Roosevelt High School and attended the Minnesota School of Business College. At 5 foot 2, with eyes of blue, she was full of spunk and playfulness and lived a life of purpose.
On Aug. 12, 1949, Lorraine married Daniel Joseph Ondov, a pastor in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. They were married 63 years until his death in 2013. Together they served parishes in Rudyard and Missoula; Scottsbluff, Omaha, and Lincoln, Nebraska; and Billings. Lorraine participated in most church activities from choir to teaching Sunday school to sewing quilts for the needy. The Lutheran Women’s Missionary League was a big part of her life, and she served in many local and district officer positions. She was the proverbial "perfect Pastor’s wife."
Lorraine truly loved being a homemaker, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She juggled baking and cooking homemade meals, canning produce, and sewing garments with her children and grandchildren’s activities, be they sports, theatrical or musical performances, or church related. She loved family gatherings in our homes and in Minneapolis, and at Swan Lake, Seeley Lake, and Spirit Lake, Idaho. She always made sure to send greeting cards honoring birthdays or special events. She also worked as a secretary at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and later as a secretary for her husband who, after retirement, worked as a planned giving counselor for the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod.
Her passions included ice-skating, golf, opera, puzzles and games, reading, Bible studies, bicycle riding, swimming, kayaking, and birding. She loved riding her tricycle up until her death. She traveled extensively overseas and throughout much of the USA. She loved being outside in the natural world and walked incessantly. Lorraine took care of her body with exercise, healthy diet, and a wholesome life.
She is survived by her son, David Ondov (Carol) and daughter, Rachel Feigley (Pete); grandchildren Sarah Schmautz (Seth), Mark Ondov (Brooke), Likhi Ondov, and Elisha Ondov; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, daughter, Beth and son, Jonathan, her parents and siblings, and too many forever friends to list.
Lorraine chose to use the talents she had been given by God through her vocations at home, church, work, and in her communities. She will be missed as a role model for how to steadfastly live the Christian life, as well as for being a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend.
A service with luncheon to follow will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Kalispell.
