SANDPOINT — The Sandpoint Soccer Association (SSA) recently announced the appointment of Angie Kerr, a former collegiate and professional soccer standout, as the new director of soccer operations.

Kerr boasts a number of accolades and experiences, both in playing and in coaching, that the SSA says will help further enhance the organization’s commitment to developing youth soccer in the Sandpoint community.

Back in September, Kerr was inducted into the University of Portland Hall of Fame for her efforts on the pitch as a Pilot. As referenced in past Daily Bee articles, Kerr was a three-time All-American, a four-time West Coast Conference honoree, a three-time All-West Region First-Team honoree, was named the 2007 WCC Player of the Year and was a finalist for the 2007 Lowe's Senior Class Award while in college. In addition to that, she won the 2004 FIFA Women's World Cup's Silver Ball and Bronze Shoe awards, appeared on the U19 National Team and U.S. Senior National team, and played multiple seasons in the National Women's Soccer League, most notably for Portland Thorns FC.

The SSA says Kerr’s background makes her an ideal fit for this role, as they look to expand their programs, enhance coaching strategies, and build upon its strong foundation of community involvement. In her role as director of soccer operations, Kerr will oversee the management and development of SSA’s youth and community programs, ensuring that players of all ages have access to high-quality training, competition, and opportunities to excel. She will work closely with SSA’s board of directors and coaching staff to implement innovative training methods, set program goals, and promote a positive environment for players to thrive both on and off the field.

“We’re incredibly excited to welcome Angie Kerr to the SSA family,” said Adam Weisner, SSA board president. “Her experience, vision, and dedication to the sport make her a tremendous asset to our organization. With Angie at the helm, we’re confident that SSA will continue to provide an exceptional soccer experience for our community’s youth.”

Kerr shared her enthusiasm about joining SSA, stating she is honored to be part of the organization and looks forward to contributing to the growth and development of young players in the area.

"SSA has a strong foundation, and I’m excited to work with the team to make an even greater impact on our community,” Kerr said.

The SSA says Kerr’s appointment marks a new chapter for the organization as it continues to elevate its programs and support local youths in reaching their full potential through the game of soccer. In addition to that, the SSA believes Kerr's leadership will be instrumental in achieving their overarching mission, which is to create a positive, inclusive environment for players, coaches, and families.
