Glacier Hockey Association’s girls program players took to the ice for their first event of the season when they traveled to Havre for a Montana Amateur Hockey Association event at the end of October.
The MAHA Girls 10/12U Jamboree hosted four teams that competed in a round robin format. The Whitefish players, Brooke Kalgren, Taylor Kalgren, Rooney Weideman, Saylor Hindman, Frankie Lamb and Peta Lamb, came home with two wins and two losses. Goal scorers included Brookie and Taylor Kalgren. First-year player Peta Lamb netted two goals, her first ever.
Thirteen players will head to Canada next weekend to play in Canal Flats, British Columbia, and the team will travel to Canada again for a special event over the Thanksgiving holiday.
“We have the wonderful opportunity to participate in WickFest in Calgary, Alberta,” Coach Lini Reading said. “We could be playing against teams from Bosnia, Sweden, there will be teams from all over the world there.”
WickFest is a huge event that Olympic hockey great, Hayley Wickenheiser started in 2010. According to the WickFest website, more than 25,000 girls have improved their hockey sense, learned life-long skills and made lasting friends while participating in this sports festival. It features workshops, clinics and guest appearances from high-level hockey players.
