The Polson Police Department recently awarded Officer Marcus Lindquist the Life Saving Medal for his extraordinary actions in responding to a critical incident on April 25.

According to Police Chief George Simpson, the officer’s “decisive and compassionate response was instrumental in saving the life of a community member during a moment of personal crisis.”

Last April, Lindquist and fellow officers responded to an emergency report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The victim, who had sustained a serious wound to the chest, had called 911 after the attempt. Upon arrival, Lindquist “took immediate command of the scene,” according to Simpson.

The officer directed emergency care and helped stabilize the victim’s condition, using supplies he had personally purchased to apply critical chest seals to both the entry and exit wounds.

“Officer Lindquist not only administered life-saving medical intervention but also held the victim’s hand, offering comfort and encouragement through a deeply vulnerable moment,” Simpson said.

The victim survived this incident and, in the aftermath, “has gained a renewed outlook on life.”

During City Commission meeting on Nov. 4, Simpson commended Officer Lindquist’s heroism, stating: “Tonight, we honor the courage, compassion, and dedication of one of our own. Officer Lindquist’s actions reached beyond the line of duty, becoming a lifeline to someone in their darkest moment. This award is a testament to the selflessness and humanity that our officers bring to their work every day.”
