The United Way of Northwest Montana has been selected for a federal appropriation to the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program. The total of available funds for Flathead County is $96,790 that will be distributed in four phases.

This program is overseen by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and provides funding to federally recognized nonprofit organizations that provide meals and shelter opportunities to local residents. The funds are calculated based on 2023 records on the number of meals served or the number of shelter days provided.

Agencies that meet the federal requirements and serve individuals in Flathead County are encouraged to apply and may apply for all four phases. To be eligible agencies must have a UEI number and include their financial statements, budgets and proof of current nonprofit status with their application.

The application and selection process has a short timeline.

United Way will accept applications from Nov. 13 until noon on Nov. 27. The applications are available for pick up at the United Way office, 1203 U.S. 2 West, Suite 52, or can be requested by email at admin@unitedwaycares.org. Late applications will not be considered.

The selection will be on Dec. 4 and funds will be submitted for distribution before the end of the year.
