The Idaho Fentanyl Education Program is sponsoring an informational presentation at Bonners Ferry High School’s Becker Auditorium on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. The event is open to the public and all interested parties are encouraged to attend. 

BFPD officials said fentanyl awareness is crucial due to the rising prevalence of fentanyl-related overdose deaths, as this synthetic opioid is up to 100 times more potent than morphine. Often illicitly produced and mixed with other drugs like heroin, cocaine, or counterfeit prescription pills, fentanyl significantly increases the risk of accidental overdose, even in small amounts.  

“Public education on its dangers, proper use of prescription opioids, recognizing signs of overdose, and the availability of life-saving interventions like naloxone are essential to combat this crisis. Increasing awareness helps reduce stigma, promote safer practices, and support harm reduction strategies,” Jason Trujillo, BFHS school resource officer, said.
