WILLISTON, N.D. — Kylani Rookstool, a sophomore from Glacier Peak High in Snohomish, Wash., scored 16 points for North Idaho in a 67-58 win over Lake Region State of Devils Lake, N.D., on Friday at Williston State University.

“Kylani played really well for us both offensively and defensively,” NIC coach Nathan Covill said. “She did a lot of good things.”

Rookstool played her freshman season at NAIA St. Katherine in San Marcos, Calif., before the school closed last spring.

“We tried to get her last year, but she wanted to see the sun a little bit,” Covill said. “She reached out when the school closed and we immediately got in touch with her. She’s had to play a number of positions for us and is playing really well right now.”

Sophomore Iratxe Amorrortu and freshman Chloe Collin scored 12 points each and freshman Tiarnee Smith had eight second half rebounds for NIC (1-2), which played for the first time since Nov. 2.

“We were a little sloppy and we’re still dealing with some bumps and bruises,” Covill said. “You don’t want to have a lot of time off after the season starts, but with a few injuries still, we’ll take it right now. Iratxe and Chloe played well and Tiarnee gave us some big minutes in the second half.”

NIC faces Williston State today.

Lake Region State (3-3) faces the Rocky Mountain JV today.
