Flückiger to host art show opening
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 12 hours, 41 minutes AGO
Bonner County artist Doug Flückiger will be featured at an art show opening at Misty Mountain Gallery, 502 Cedar St. in Sandpoint on Friday, Nov. 26, from 5–8 pm.
Flückiger, a respected local artist who creates photorealistic landscapes and animal portraits, will also give demonstrations of his technique at the event.
Also, several framed originals and signed giclée prints of his work will also be available, along with smaller unframed prints, one of which will be offered for free in a raffle. The gallery will be offering wine and hors d’oeuvres for the evening.
Flückiger has lived in North Idaho for over 26 years. A self-taught artist, the artist said his drawings are inspired by the area’s natural scenery. Most of the work depicts local scenery, but he’s also known for his dramatic drawings of Wyoming’s Teton mountains; one of these drawings is eight feet across and four high.
Flückiger's work is frequently mistaken for black-and-white photography. It is only when seen more closely, that most viewers realize his work is hand-drawn. Giclée prints of his originals, popular because of their lower cost, are so detailed that they’re difficult to distinguish from the originals, and are printed on thick, acid-free watercolor paper.
Flückiger, whose work is displayed in galleries in Coeur d’Alene and Jackson Hole, Wyo., has an avid local fan base and Facebook following, but public appearances are rare.
“I’m a high-functioning introvert,” he said. “People like my work, and I appreciate that, but I just like to draw.”
