Gordon Lee Walker, 88, passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 9, 2024, surrounded by his family and is now safely in the hands of the Lord Jesus Christ.
He was born in Columbus, Ohio, and attended Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. In 1960, he entered the Navy as a journalist striker, serving two years of active duty and six years in the Reserve, where he achieved the rank of master sergeant. During his time in the Navy, he had the honor of meeting President Truman and performing on trumpet at Kansas City Auditorium in front of thousands.
Gordon met his beloved spouse, Lynn, while they worked together at an insurance company in California. They moved with their children to Washington and eventually to Montana, where they built a life full of love and community.
Music was a constant in Gordon’s life. He was a self-taught musician on both guitar and piano, and his love for music extended into composing his own pieces for the piano.
Above all, Gordon had a deep passion for spreading the gospel, a commitment he embraced after accepting Jesus Christ later in life. He attended Bigfork Chapel for 19 years, where he found a loving community and deepened his faith. He often carried a bag of pennies with crosses stamped into them, handing them out with a smile and asking, "Does God make sense/cents?"
His humor and kindness touched the lives of countless people he met. One of his greatest joys in life was his weekly bible study with Gordon and Penny; Byce and Lynn; and Kay. Another love was his weekly lunches with Bill and Dale plus his weekly study with Mike.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Lynn Walker of Kalispell; his daughter Julie Walker Alvarez of Morgan Hill, California, and her husband Dave Alvarez, along with their children, Jennifer Palmer and David Alvarez; his son Michael Metcalf of Enumclaw, Washington; his daughter, Kerry Goodson of Bigfork, and her children Austin, Isaiah, Grace, Elijah, Ellie, and Skyler Goodson; and his daughter Sara Blanco of Mill Creek, Washington, and her husband Miguel Blanco, along with their children Brody and Grayson Blanco. In total he has 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Gordon’s life is scheduled for Jan. 25, 2025, at Bigfork Chapel. In lieu of flowers, in Gordon’s memory, share the love of Christ with others.
