COEUR d’ALENE — A man is in jail on $150,000 bail after police said he battered a woman, then tried to intimidate her.

Kasey J. Evans, 39, of Coeur d’Alene, is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and intimidating a witness, both felonies. He is also charged with domestic battery, a misdemeanor.

The charges stem from Nov. 14, when Coeur d’Alene police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

A woman told police that Evans threw her phone at her during an argument, striking her with it, and then refused to leave. Evans allegedly threatened to break down a door to reach the woman, according to court records, but ultimately left before police arrived.

When interviewed by police, the woman said Evans had exhibited controlling behavior that made her fearful. She indicated Evans was likely watching her interaction with police via the feed from a home security camera, court records said.

The woman received text messages from Evans while she spoke to police, in which he threatened to accuse her of stealing his belongings and threatened to contact her workplace, according to court records. Officers described the messages as “clearly initiated in response” to the police presence.

Police also said that Evans owned numerous firearms, despite being convicted of multiple felony offenses in the past.

A judge issued a $150,000 warrant for Evans’ arrest. He was arrested Friday and remains in custody at the Kootenai County jail.
