The Bigfork Valkyries played hard but ultimately lost out in the State A tournament in Bozeman last week.

The Vals first faced Hardin, second seed in the east, on Thursday, falling 1-3 in tight sets. Bigfork went 2-3 against Fergus on Friday; sets of 25-23, 25-15, 23-25, 26-28 and 8-15. Their second match of the day Friday, the Vals fell to Frenchtown, second seed in the west, 1-3. Frenchtown went on to play Billings Central in the championship; Billings took home the state title.

The Valkyries ended their regular season with a 67% win rate. Bigfork will lose seniors Piper Lee, a leading hitter and server, and setter Taylor Howlett, with top assist and block stats. They will hope to return freshman Maddie Corona next season, leading hitter, as well as remaining younger team members who will benefit from the experience of a state tournament.
