EPHRATA — Two Moses Lake men were booked into Grant County Jail Thursday night for suspicion of second-degree trespassing on private property near Ephrata, according to a statement released from Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

There has been an increase in rural break-ins, according to the statement, so GCSO had an extra deputy patrolling the 7000 block of Martin Road Northwest. The deputy saw headlights in the field and stopped a 2003 Chevy pickup and found Donal Glenn Smith, 52, and Gabriel Gacia De Leon, 31, inside the vehicle. Smith claimed he was experiencing mechanical problems, and he was on the property to borrow a wrench — although he said he did not know who lived on the property.

The deputy called the property owner who said there shouldn’t be anyone on the property at midnight. The owner asked for the two men to be charged with trespassing.
